Nepal local time:

Who are we and what services can we provide adoptive families?

We are directors, social workers, clerks, Nepalese translators, liaison people, tour guides, and consultants. We are a family dedicated to matching caring parents with children who need them. Collectively and officially we are a 501 (c)(3) non-profit agency, licensed by the State of Washington and subject to the laws of this state. We have the experience, expertise, and the network to handle all aspects of an international adoption in Nepal. The legalities, language problems, and cultural differences can make adoption almost impossible without the assistance of an agency that is knowledgeable, trustworthy and caring. We are well informed and in touch with all parties involved in the process.

We help adoptive families prepare their dossiers in an efficient manner, arrange for their travel to and within Nepal, assign multi-lingual guides for the entire time they are there, and provide travel and lodging accommodations for every day of the adoptive parents' stay in Nepal. We assist families with each step of the adoptive process, and provide information on all matters relevant to their adoption, i.e., assign an agency case worker upon request, update the status of their dossiers both before and after it has been sent to Nepal, inform clients of changing requirements brought about by the Nepalese government and its associated ministries or by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, provide re-adoption assistance for our families, coordinate social activities, and much more.

Who qualifies?

The standard requirements to adopt from Nepal are much more difficult than many countries. Because of this, the program certainly is limited to families meeting very specific criteria. However, the children from Nepal are exceptional in every way, and for those families who do meet the specific qualifications, this program will afford a lifetime of happiness and joy from their amazing children.

1) Parents (in this case married couples and single women) between the ages of 30 and 45 qualify for healthy infants from Nepal. Between the ages of 45-50, parents qualify for toddlers, and between 50-55, parents qualify for young children ages two and above.

2) Married couples must have been married for at least 4 years prior to filing an application.

3)Applicant families must also be able to verify by a doctor proof of infertility (tubal ligation or vasectomies qualify for "infertility").

4) Single women between the ages of 35 and 55 may adopt from Nepal. Single parents with a child in the home are required to adopt a younger child.

5) Single men may not adopt from Nepal. This is a country-specific regulation.

6) Families with two children of the opposite sex are not allowed to adopt from Nepal. Basically, Nepal requires that families with one child must adopt a child of the opposite sex (ie: if you have a boy in the home, you must adopt a girl); families with no children have a choice in gender preference; and families with both a boy and a girl in the household are not allowed to adopt from Nepal; if there are two girls in the home, families must adopt a boy (and vice versa).

However, any children in the household from a wife's previous marriage are not considered in the requirements. That is, if a wife has a son from a previous marriage living in the household, and the couple has a daughter, the couple is required to adopt a son as the wife's child from her first marriage is not tallied into the final total.

7) Parents must own their home.

8) Parents can only have one divorce for each spouse.

9) Parents may adopt siblings as long as there are no children in the home presently.

10) Families are required to travel to Nepal twice to finalize their adoption. The first trip is required to visit with the child and perform paperwork. The second trip is required to finalize the adoption and unite with your child.

Again, these specific requirements will force a number of families to consider other programs. However, for those who do meet the qualifications, the length of time from start to finish, the health of the children, and the lasting connection to the wonderful country of Nepal will exceed all your expectations.

When will you be matched with a baby, and how will you be notified?

After your dossier is submitted to Nepal, within 1-4 months a specific child's referral will be sent to our agency matching your particular requests and fitting your family's situation according to Nepalese restrictions.

Once our agency is sent the child's referral, picture and medical report, we notify you immediately! (This is one of the best moments of our job). Once you have the medical reports checked by a pediatrician, and once you decide to pursue adoption of that particular child, we will send a letter to Nepal specifically allocating that child to your family. That simply means that the child is formally pulled out of the adoption pool for your family and will not have another family pursuing adoption of that particular child. If you accept the child, you will begin preparing for the first of two trips immediately which will occur within weeks after acceptance. One or both parents must travel to Nepal.
